well I got my bulbs yesterday from sun aquatics so I was fooling around all evening testing them out. the 10K's are pretty crisp looking, the 14K are real blue (radium type of blue) and the 20K are real close to the 14K bulbs but with a hint of purple. In all fairness I am going to compare them all again in 3 weeks after I have let them break in and do the initial color shift, at this time I will measure the PAR from each bulb.

the first pic is a 2 year old AB for a starting referance

this is the brand new 10K SA bulb

this is the 14K SA bulb

and this is the 20K bulb

now remember this was the first time they were flashed, I expect the 10K to whiten up a little and hopefully the 14K will also. this is why I want to break them in for a week and do this again.

Well thanks for the pics. I want to buy a 175W bulb from SA ( which I have to wait for J&L to get, because Venki won't sell it to me). The 14000K looks far too blue for my liking.

Very cool, the 14,000k looks bluer than the 20,000k but that initial burn can be quite different than how they appear once they've burnt in.

Since you've got so much spare time on your hands I wonder if you wanna come over and help me clean and drain a 90 gallon and then make a buch of aragocrete rock... Cold beer and wine place close by, I'll buy.

remember they do need to burn in and on any bulb the color change in the first 100 hours is dramatic. so this will be a kinda befor/after look at the bulbs. this is also why I an mot doing any PAR comparasons till after they burn in.

my expatation is the 10K will lose the green and go white, the 14K will be whiteish with a bit of blue, and the 20K will shift more blue that purple. (although I like the look of the 20 K now  )

Nice comparrison shots Steve, I like how you took them all at roughly the same angle and time, as others change the angles and times thus altering the comparrison.

I really like the 14k and the 20k, I do agree that the 14 is a little blue, however this bulb may have potential after burn-in. Please keep us updated with the same comparrison in a few weeks

What's the $ difference between the two?

Steve I used to live in Esquimalt, stones throw from Gorge Rd Golf Course. When I was in the Navy I could book my green times through the base gym, $5... not bad huh, to bad I didn't take up golf would have been cheaper than this hobby.

Merry christmas, thanks for the pics, would be nice if there were a tunable bulb/balllast, you'd just set the spectrum with the peaks where you want it and replace the bulb once a year... wow wouldn't that be great.
