Well had my vortechs off last night do do some cleaning around the tank, and then powered them back up probably the first time i never did the walk around to ensure no one is chilling out in the wet side. Powered them up only to find my mystery wrasse was in one. He died almost instantly from internal injuries i assume he did not look to injured or was not breathing heavy when i reached in to pull him out of the dt so no one would pick on him. This was upsetting as he was our first fish in the tank and we had had him for about 1.5 years and his colouring was just stunning. So i learned the hard way to check my pumps just thought i would pass it on to others before powering them up do a walk around.

What a way to go, sorry to hear about it. We all tend to learn the hard way about certain things. It just sucks!

Yes it is a pretty harsh reminder on just how delicate life really is. I posted this as a learning experience so it does not happen to any one else. I am sure i am not the first

Ya it's a good reminder. My lunare wrasse would hang out in my koralia when it was shut off, I always had to check it before turning it back on. I did forget to check once but thankfully the time I forgot, I got lucky and he wasn't in there. Definitely can happen easily enough unfortunately

Sorry to hear that! Mystery wrasses are so beautiful. To lose a buddy that you have for so long is hard, but to have had a hand in its demise is devastating! Thanks for the reminder. Don't have a vortex yet, but maybe one day I will, and I'll remember this. RIP wrasse.

Sorry for your loss of a beautiful fish..:(
It's definately something we all need to be aware of.... I had never really given it a second thought until a couple months ago. While I had powerheads off I watched my ember blenny go and perch inside a powerhead.. It freaked me out to think I could have chopped him up.... Now I double if not triple check...
