Hi there,

Anybody knows a good place to find out about LED lights? I'm looking to get something that works for my 90 Gals Reef Tank.

Thanks,

Midway

They work great but they cost alot of money. You can buy them online from the US. You will save money and when it gets here you just pay the postman for the GST:idea:

You will likely also have to pay brokerage and duty which will be expensive on a light fixture. Plus if you have issues and need to use the warranty it will be very difficult. Stick with a Canadian source as you originally intended.

Exactly sphelps, those brokeage and duty fees are @#$$%%^ ing ridiculous. I got taken by them before, not anymore. Yeah, Canadian stores that is. I know those LED fixtures are expensive but so the T5 HO are freaking electricity wasters big time. I know LEDs are more expensive but in the long run they pay for themselves many times over, well depending how well you take care of them. :)

build your own its way cheaper, you can get the LED's online or even from some electrical wholesalers, thats what I plan on doing.

Yeah good idea. are you doing that really? well I thought about it before but don't you have to have some electrical knowledge or something like that to be able to do it yourself? I would love to do it myself with the right coaching from someone that knows what he's doing...lol

when the wife lets me lol

and after I get my sump going, I need to get the tank almost ready before I worry about lights thats the least of my concern right now.

Gotcha...actually I'm in the process of upgrading my 40 gals reef into a 90 gals now. I was just thinking ahead on the lights needs of my new tank. I will add you to my friends list so when the time comes, I'll be here.

Thanks man!!!

I can help you out as well if you go down the DIY LED route. The electrical part is actually very simple and virtually anyone can do it, especially if you've used a soldering iron before. The hardest part is making the fixture visually pleasing.

I just did the black friday thing at Dr.Tim's for the aqua beam stuff and controllers.

They were like 20% off or something, couldnt resist

i'll let you know how brokerage works out, but they shipped FedEx which is ussually way better about duty and brokerage.
