Starting to dose Kalkwasser to maintain calcium, but do i do to maintain alkalinity. Do i have to continue dosing buffer or will it stabilize itself.

Kalk is a ballanced buffer, same as A & B tybe solltion. When you are dosing kalk you are adding calcium and buffer at the same time. Make sense?

The alkalinity (carbonates) component of kalkwasser comes indirectly from the interaction of CO2 in air. If you have problems maintaining alkalinity levels even with a saturated kalk solution you may need to supplement through increasing available CO2 or by using a carbon vehicle such as vinegar.

Mares,
Your alkalinity should maintain itself with the use of kalk, but also should be used after a proper alk is reached.
I would suggest the use of buffers to raise alk up,and then using kalk to maintain it then alternating as needed.
Marc.
