hey, i recently bought a fluval 105 for my edge, now heres the question, would it be possible to cut off the bottom of the fluval, then take a 10g tank seal the lid with only a small hole on top, then silicone/fuse the bottom of the canister to the tank, essentially making the whole tank part of the canister, i wanted to know if this would actually work, like would the pump be strong enough, my goal is to make a simple refugium for my edge....

any thoughts are appreciated

if the lid is sealed watertight, yes it would work.

Personally I wouldn't cut up a functional canister filter for what you're trying to do. It could be put to better use to run carbon, gfo or some other media. You can even run it without any media simply for a little more flow.

It is still going to run carbon and purigen, I just want to have a 10g under it where I can grow a ton of macro algae and to add water volume to the edge,
