Found this in my tank and think its Aiptasia, sorry for the terrible photo, but its all i could get.. can anyone tell?

http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/113ap.jpg?6368

the only thing i thought it might be was some small feather dusters... they are 3 little clumps of them on one rock.

thanks.

sorry, cant tell anything from that pic :)

Maybe on of the more experienced people here can tell you if apstasia will live in a cluster like that (I would think they might not because of competition for food? But not sure).

Ok ... if I squint reallllllly hard .... it looks like a circular blob on top of a thin cylindrical blob? Which makes me lean towards the feather duster theory ...

If you disturb them, do the crowns retreat into the cylinder?

Aiptasia would probably disappear outright, hiding into the rockwork if disturbed, since they probably have their foot hidden into holes and such.

I don't know if this helps, but, it seems to me there usually is no mistaking aiptasia as anything other than "little anemones."

I dunno.. sorry I couldn't be of better assistance..

yah sorry the pic is terrible, upon closer inspection i do think it is aptasia... I took the rock out for now, if i let it dry compeltley will it be ok to put back in?

Ok if I stand 10 feet away from my monitor and squint hard I think I see it. The body colour matches the top, which matches the colour of aiptasia so that's my guess. Only problem is that the top looks a little too conical, closer to a feather duster in shape.

Man...this is like a game or something

The only thing I can say is that Aiptasia do not hang around in clumps. I have only ever seen them as solitary individuals. They look like a little transparent anemones.

To me that doesn't look like either one. It looks more like my wifes birthday DQ cake I forgot in the truck all weekend.

yeesh, didn't think i would get so much of a raz for my picture taking abilities  !... In anycase yes it IS a game. The rock is now out, as even if it wasn't aptasia i didn't really like the color... thanks everyone.

actually jakets, that pic looks more like a majano to me? Unless that is a very healthy well fed aiptasia..

Em, pretty sure majanos have bulbous ends. That one definitely looks like aptaisia to me.

The reason I posted a browner looking one is that is what the original pic looked like. Sorta browny beige.

But I think these are much wispier

The Albertan form of aptasia are translucent, white/grey. No pigmentation as such. Kinda banded. Something like jakets' second photo. Nothing like the first... Both look evil. I have seen aptasia in groups in the past, do they not typically reproduce asexually?
