Possible to drill my tank?

Hello everyone,

I have a 48 long x 13 wide x 21 high 55 or so gallons. I have read that all tanks this size are tempered glass and can not be drilled. I do not know the manufactuer of the tank but there is a sticker on the bottom that says "do not drill the tank enclosure".

If it is not possible to drill my tank, what are the best options for a hob overflow?

If it is possible to be drilled, where is the best place to take it in Edmonton?

The 55 gallon standard tank is typically 100% tempered and can't be drilled. You could replace a pane of glass but disassembling a tempered tank is risky and you could fracture one or more panes of glass, probably easiest to just smash the pane you plan on replacing.

Before you go ahead and purchase a hang on overflow consider getting a new tank, plenty of good deals around on used pre-drilled 50 to 75 gallon tanks around. A 55 long isn't a great size for saltwater anyway.

Phone Steve at Red coral in Edmonton...he has a used overflow kit...and a buch of 33 gallon used tanks you could use for sump

Thanks for the info. I have already ordered a Life Reef overflow (its sitting at customs) as I did the polarized glasses test on my tank and it is 100% tempered. And I already have a sump that I got from a neighbor.
