So my 180 has been sitting in the kitchen for a week waiting for me to get the nerve to drill a couple of holes in it. Well, finally tackled it, and it was pretty easy! Pretty sure I held my breath for 20 minutes tho :)

yeppers not as hard as some would think if you take all the right steps. I have drill a couple dozens holes now and they just keep getting easier.

All that went through my head for both holes was " gee, wonder how much a 2x6 sheet of glass is gonna cost" :)
But ya, much easier than I thought, especially on thicker glass.

Glad it worked out well for you, the though of drilling glass makes me very nervous. Don't know if I'd ever have the guts to do it myself.

It took me two weeks to actually decided to do it...very nervous, but it worked out well, and a lot cheaper than driving the tank over to Seastar

What did you use to make the holes?

What did you use to make the holes?

I bought a diamond tipped hole saw, cost about 30 bucks.

ya i have drilled a few and find it nerve racking at the least... i havent drilled anything in a tank near that size so i am sure it was extra nerve racking..
(from a replacment cost standpoint)
glad it all worked out for you...

Jeez, I swear I deleted your account. You don't have a tank, you can't come here no more!! :P

Sorry, too busy building to take pics, but if you actually take that road trip, you can see for yourself! And help me lift the tank up, it's a wee bit heavy :)

yeah its way easier drilling through thick glass ...... you know you have skill if you can drill through 5 or 10 gallon tanks.

Yeah I love drilling thick glass, I made a weighted vise/holder from one of my drills so I can just set it up on the tank/glass, turn it on and walk away, 20-30min later a perfect hole. The smaller tanks suck, I remember going through about four 5 gallon tanks once for somebody, worst day ever!
