Ok so I am not huge into the fish scene but I am confused

I bought my clown as a ocellaris and now I am starting to think its a percula

from what I know perc's have more black between the white lines and ocellaris only have thin lines. Also the eyes on ocellaris are mostly black while the perc's have small black pupils and orange rings around (which mine has)

So did I get a perc that was sold to me as a ocellaris? When I do an upgrade I want to add another clown and was hoping to add a picasso, will this be ok?

here is a quick pic of the little guy

Accidents happen, especially if the fish was younger. Your pic is too far away to tell for sure but read this, it shows you the differences

Very nice clown whatever it turns out to be.

If you wanted to pair it with a picasso you would have needed a true perc anyhow. :)

I didn't check the links, but the only sure way to identify is to count the dorsal rays. Perculas will have 10, and Ocellaris will have 11. There is the odd one that will have one less ray than it should which makes it tough to identify an Ocellaris with only 10 rays! Now you need to get a real clear photo of your clown's dorsal fin so you can count the rays. Easier said than done!

You can't judge just by color, although it is a good place to start. If I were to guess based on color I would think yours is an Ocellaris.

As stated, Picasso clowns are Percula.

One other thing I read was if the eyes are percs are black on orange. and oscellaris have black on black. not sure about that though.

On the side note wonder if anyone has tried breeding percs with oscellaris? I know they can form a pair w/ no issue but not sure if they bear live young.
