Just wondering if any had and detailed plans for an effective skimmer, I was thinking of trying to make one of the xmas break, rather than buying one. Thanks.

What type of details are you looking for?

well, i guess just like the link i posted... it has all the materials listed that you need, and step by step instructions on how to assemble it. The only problem with the one in that link is the outlet has to be plumbed above the top of the mixing box or it won't work....

I'm sure you could modify that, but I think that is the most detailed description I've seen. You might find a thread on RC, but it doesn't get much better for details than that link

No way! My skimmer cost me about $100 to make, and the comparable "retail" is about $700.

$700 for a skimmer  how big was the skimmer that you were bout to buy and where did you buy it from??

Most decent skimmers start at $400, IMO. I have a 155g tank, and a skimmer for that is over $500 anyway. The bullet 3, comparable to mine, is $799.

A Euroreef for mine would be at least be $609, probably more.

"parts" are from the acrylic store. Some from the plumbing supply store. Then you'll need a good table saw and a really good router. You'll need a router table also. Use the good carbide bits. See the link at the top of this thread for plans.

Is there anyone who sells acrylic tubing in less that the 6 or 10 foot lengths, if I wanted to make a skimmer I'd still have way to much material left over.
