I was just looking on Ebay. Is this true:With Ice Caps you can double the output or do you need a special ballast. Are the lamps configured another way to get that kind of wattage?

48" T5 AquaSun 10K High Output Lamp from URI/UVL

* 54W on Standard HO Ballast
* 85W on IceCap Ballast

that would be a switch for IceCap, they used to use HO ballast to run VHO bulbs claiming energy savings, or higher output from NO bulbs, I have wondered if you could run a T5 bulb at VHO power levels but wasn't interested enough to go buy one and try it.. I wonder if this is what there doing or is it just hype like befor?

I spoke to URL this morning. They said that icecap 660 automatically over drives the V-HOT5's. Further overdriving shortens the life to 50% on on overdriven lamps. He does not recomend that the Super Actinic's be overdriven..not sure why
