Recently put in an Aussie Acans that I'd waited forever and a day to receive. Few days in and it appears it's being consumed (like seriously eaten up) by one of the tank inhabitants. This is only happening at night as I have my tank next to me nearly all day and haven't witnessed anything come close to it. Therefore I can pretty much eliminate most of my fish from being the culprit as they're busy sleeping. But i'll mention all the tank inhabitants anyway.

1 Peppermint Shrimp (I suspect it's her)
2 Cleaner Shrimp
3 False Perc Clowns
1 Foxface
1 Hippo Tang
1 Royal Gramma
1 Dragon Goby (doesn't eat ANYTHING let alone coral)

Peppermint shrimp or possibly the Foxface or Hippo. The others are not as likely.

I would guess the peppermint shrimp AND the cleaner shrimp. In my experience the peppermint starts the chow down and then the cleaners come over to see what is so delicious, and they join in.

put the acan in one of those plastic lidded baskets that strawberries and blueberries come in, betcha if you take a peek after dark the shrimps will be all over it.

.

I had one that ate everything including LPS corals. was very fast and smart.
Grew to about 24" inch in 3 years and was as thick as my thumb !
it was so powerful that it could rearrange small rocks.
Was very hard to catch, but i got it by removing a large piece of rock.

It AKA as Eunice Worm

Mine was EXACTLY like that, grew from nothing,(I quarantined my tank for 6 month) and came as a hitch hiker on live rock.
So my lesson/conclusion is NO MORE LIVE ROCK! If i start a new tank it will be ECO rock only !

Buggers. Now I'm undecided which is the priority. Aiptasia removal or losing my $25 Acan frag.
