So I got this tank given to me some time ago but was not sure what to do with it. After having some issues with my 65 gal hex tank I decided what I was going to do.

I had already built the steel frame for this tank, one of those ' just in case ' things, so that was done. There was a hole in the back left corner of the tank already but I wanted to go with a center overflow, so out came the drill. Drilled a new hole for a 1 1/2" bh and a 1" bh to make a herbie overflow. Some might ask why a Herbie?? well here's why, already did a Hofer Gurgle Buster (155 BF) and a Durso (165gal, 8' tank ) so it was Herbie's turn. Took the cut out piece from the 1 1/2" hole to fill the hole in the corner & siliconed a piece of 1/4" glass on both side's. Picked up some black acrylic to make the overflow, took a 15 gal tank & split it into 3 compartment ( intake, skimmer & return compartment's ). Had a 1200 gph submersible pump to use for the return ( single 1" return up to top of tank where it tee's offs to each back corner. Using a Tunze 9010 for a skimmer, an old 3 bulb T5 fixture that I had laying around and a couple 1300 gph power heads to keep it all mixing around.

Have not finished the exterior of the stand yet but plan on it being identical to the stand for my 8' tank as they are in the same room.

Occupants are as follows:
1 - Picasso Trigger ( my fav )
1 - Gold Bar Maroon Clown
1 - Fox Face
1 - Scribbled Rabbit
1 - Lemon Damsel
1 - Blue Fin Damsel
1 - Chocolate Chip Star
1 - Green Serpent Star

Yes it does !! We had a really nice snowflake eel that was over 12" long and loved to be hand feed, not to mention he liked to play around my hand. Might get another one if I can find a small one for cheap.

Very observant of you, that is one kick ass pump & works like a charm. I would love to have a couple more trigger's but will settle for this one for now. Who know maybe some day I will have a 100 gal + FOWLER going as well

I don't think think that the wife would allow that but I have been thinking hard about setting up a home based SW shop to help with the cost's of the acreage.

find a walmart thats shutting down thier fish section snap upthier units and you will be one step ahead for stock wise. i just noticed that one of them just shut down thiers here in regina and i had bad thoughts go through my head that would make my wife kick me out. oh wait im a locksmith i can get back in .. but you get the idea;) they may even give you the units n/c if you remove them and you ask nicely.

Pool is off limit's, the wife does not want to swim with fishes and the cost of the salt :surprise: can't even guesstimate what that would cost. I would have to open it up to the public and charge admission

Any updates possible Greg? Ever find an eel? What does the stand look like? Did you use a canopy over the top? Etc. etc.

Sorry Tony nothing really new to report on this tank. It is still up and running but have not had time or the money to finish it the way I would like.

Need to close in the stand, build a canopy and get a little better light for it or just mod the one I have. It is a little long of the tank but I think I can cut a couple inches off it to make it work.

No Snow Flake Ell just yet. I have been thinking of turning this tank into a Zoa tank and moving my Preds to a bigger tank I have in my office but not sure just yet. The wife says I am not allowed to put any more tanks or bigger ones in the house so it would have to be out in the office.

Well the old 67 gal will soon be a 90 Gallon starfire tank - Eurobraced, rear external overflow, 2 X 1.5" holes for drains, 2 X 1" holes drilled in eurobrace for returns.36"L X 18"D X 31"H. I will have to build a new stand the the wife insists it has to be 100% complete before I can bring it into the house. I will also have to build a new sump and hope that this one will be a little better.

Pic's to follow when I get the tank.

That's an interesting shape, same footprint but major upgrade in height. Why would you need a new stand if the footprint is the same?

I am going to sell this one as a full package, tank, stand, sump, plumbing and more then likely return pump as well.

Ah I see. Is the 8x2x2 going to replace the reef then? You have some fun tank swaps ahead of you by the looks of things..

If it is in good shape it will. It the only I could go a little bigger, the boss said it could not take up any more of the room. Either that or I have to replace the front glass on the 167 as it is getting all scratched up. If I swap it out then I can take the time to replace the glass and sell it.

So the 67gal is no more. Everything has been moved to my temp 55gal tank.

Stay tuned for a new build thread:biggrin:
