I am wondering if anyone knows what this is  It being a maroon macroalgae that has shown up in my tank recently. As can be seen in the picture, it is a dark red, and branched. It really is purty, and does not grow very fast.

Gracillaria maybe? Just in case, can I trade you a piece of something I have, for a piece of it?

Well Tony, it unfortunately grows very slowly, but if I could I would gladly give you some. I am going to move that bit to my nano to see if I can grow it better. There is another bit in the tank, which I will watch. But for now unfortunately no trades. :frown:

The new Fenner+Calfo (RI) book calls it "Red Kelp", and suggests that it is a desirable Rhodophyte. Page 99...Email Anthony he might have a scientific name for you.

Thanks all. It really is purty, and I would like to have a tank full of it.
