Hey everbody! I'm looking for a frag of A. desalwii. I don't know what fancy name other reefers have dubbed it so it's a little hard to track it down. To make things easier, here is a picture (http://glassbox-design.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/acropora-desalwii.jpg) of A. desalwii I found on Google.

If any one has a frag of this beauty, please give me a shout!!!

Most A. desalwii do not have green polyps like this, most of them are brown so finding one won't mean that you will end up with one looking like this.

Are you sure on that? The only ones I have ever seen in tanks or in pictures have green polyps, albeit maybe not as green as in the picture I have there; in fact, if I recall correctly, that is one of the traits of A. desalwii. A. plana, which looks incredible similar and grows in the same region as A. desalwii, has the purple/brown polyps...

 I miss yours too:razz: That's a pretty snazzy looking colony there. See why I want some?

PS. Atomikk, you guys have any cool zoas/palys in that aren't on the site?

Well there is what is possible in nature, and what is possible with heavy dosing of elements. Both Plana and Desalwii can have green polyps. I believe the main factor in determining which is which is the growth pattern.

We do. We are working of some cool pictures. We will have Nukes, PDs, etc... and this amazing new soft coral only offered by us.

Wanna hook a brotha up with something cool? Let me know when you've got some pics!

Also, any suggestions where to track down A. desalwii?

Hi,

It is possible to find one of those from time to time at a LFS (at least here in Calgary). I have seen it a few times actually. They may appear brown as mentioned in a previous post, however like all SPS you may get a suprise if it likes your water conditions. I purchased mine as a browned out colony, and it looks pretty close to that picture now, except it is more pinkish purple at the tips. Too bad you are so far away. Maybe if you are patient or lucky, you will see one at your LFS one day.

I've been sitting here for about an hour staring at your picture, to some refernce pics, to your pic, to some... well, you get the idea. It sure as heck looks a lot like it but, you know, I.D.ing is always easier with the real thing in front of of you and not something from memory:razz:.

Atomikk, you had one longer than I have; what do you say on this one?

Great coral, but not A. desalwii. The coenosteum (coral base) is too smooth and has the corallites spaced apart a lot more than the coral pictured above.

What ever it is the thing is a tank, I have gone through some stupid water parameter changes and it's one of my only SPS to not be effected.

Ya, those were my thoughts too, especially based on the picture I posted. I was thrown off by your picture. I couldn't quite tell from behind all that crazy PE you had going on there; all the PE made it look like there were quite a few more corallites and made me wonder if it was just the picture I had that made it look like it should have fewer polyps spaced further apart.

Thanks for the ID help!
