What are the dimensions of your tank? I have a 48" T5 Metal Halide Combo that I put together myself $400 with bulbs

thats a good price on the combo I would make sure you see the unit first as they can get salt creep in them corrode. make sure that each MH has it's own reflector they put out more this way in the way of the reflected light and the Par is higher.

Have hanging 6 bulb light, T5HO. Comes with 6 4700k bulbs, and 2 actinic bulbs (420nm). Used for 2 weeks until my tank broke due to a bad seal. Paid a fair amount for it, but willing to let it go for $200.

Still need lights.... T5... six bulb fixture.

I think halides will be too hot for this size tank.... and I hear they are power hogs.

The choice of lighting is of course up to you but I had a 150W MH over a 20g nano in the summer and my tank would only raise 2 degrees on the hottest days without a fan (open top however).

6 T5HO fixtures will use 324 watts of power and a 2 x 150W MH fixture will use 300 watts so for a shallower tank such as 75 power consuption would be about the same. Plus the cost of replacing 6 bulbs every 8 months vs 2 bulbs every 12 months.

Both types of lighting are great and I currently use T5's so I'm not advocating one over the other but if a great deals comes your way on a MH fixture it may be worth considering.

Thanks Brotha. I am not quite set up yet. Working on finishing the plumbing today. I may just end up buying one new if I cant get one used. I decided 6 bulb... without question is what I want. Should make my tank glow!

I will keep it in mind in case things dont pan out. I should be able to start the cycle in the dark anyhow.

I just purchased an aquatic life 6 bulb t5 fixture, built in digital timer, one cord coming out,4 sets of moonlights, not selling it just thought if you were going to buy brand new, this is an exellent light, couldn't be happier.
