holy green star polyps batman. Nice and white. I better not let my wife see this. She thinks that the sand should look brand new all the time.
Nice and clean look. What size of tank is it?

Wow  that's a really great looking 10gl you have there Kato

Pretty darn good for a rookie I would say

A friendly tip though, in ideal conditions green star can spread like wildfire  , so if you don't want all your rock and glass covered by them in a year from now be choosey on were you place them

I used to keep mine on a single rock placed on the sandbed, that made it harder for them to mat onto other rocks or the glass. You could also place smaller rocks beside the main colony in order to have them spread in a controlled manor.

Also as this is the first post I have seen from you, welcome to to Canreef  there's lot's of great local and eastern( ) reefers on this board who will be here to help you along the way

Kato,
I know your just starting out, so by no means don't think that I was dis'n your reef, as it really looks great. Green star polyps are just one of those beautiful corals that you have to use alittle caution with that's all.

My best advice for a newbie is, RBYB=research>before>you>buy
Knowing the most about a coral or fish before you place it into your tank is a great practise. Your tank looks good and your here, so I think your starting off on the right "fin"

What is the height of that tank  , it looks like it is taller than the 12" height of a normal 10 gallon. I know a AC Mini is six inches tall. Maybe the angle the photo was taken at is fooling me

Maybe you could post it in the nano tank section of the board  , it just has been quiet in there for a while that is all.

They may be getting too much light. I'm having a similar problem with some star polyps in my 72 gal bowfront with 3 x 55w of PC light. Have put the star polyps lower in the tank yesterday, and turned off one 55w light. We'll see today if that makes any difference. Next thing I might do is hide the star polyps in a more shaded area of the tank.

Here's a pic of the 72:

I don't intend to hijack this thread, but Beverly, I have found that GSP's like a lot of light. Mine are under 2x96W PC's at a depth of about 12", and are fine. Kari's are under MH, and growng like mad. They are sometimes finicky. I babysat a friend's GSP's because they would not open at his place. It took almost a month here before they opened.

Bob,

I will keep your comments in mind with my star polyps, which are brown. They have been in the same tank for the last month, but when I re-aquascaped it earlier this week and moved the polyps higher in the tank, they stopped opening. The problem could also have been caused by all the moving around.

Kato,

Thanks
