How do I know my Mandy is digging her new home?

She is twice as fat as she was in her last home.

Love her In this tank.

Dosing rack complete. Asides from needing paint, I'm satisfied.

http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu253/paddyob/a8ce93f2.jpg

And the inspector came by...

http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu253/paddyob/219ffbde.jpg

My cat is as involved as anyone. Anytime I work on the tank he comes by. And he loves my sump. Funny.

Tough summer for my reef.

But with that said, a new cabinet begins. Need to keep little Sophia out once she begins crawling.

Bought the steel through my boss at work.

Making the cabinet frame/stand reinforcement from HSS 1.5"x1.5" x 3/16".

Two pieces bought at 24' each. That's a start.

Shutting down.

So many issues this year. 4 corals left out of 70+. Most I had for 4-6 years.

2 fish left. Parasite crap. Red slime and hair.

I was ready to say fudge it.... but my wife really wants it back and knows this hobby is a part of me.... just really frustrated.

FML.

Oh... and geez. Thanks for the followers. I have had over 25,000 views of my build!!

I hope to have the same interest in the Phoenix.... as I hope to rise from the ashes.

I'm kinda speechless ...

It's in full on crash mode. Bristle worms all over dead or dying. Water has gone milky. And stanks! I'll add a pic of that later.

I have turned off the lights and doser. I have a 38g I'm setting up downstairs for rock. I'm going to clean and re-cure it.

Disassemble and add some new things. Going to add a new breaker for dedicated line. Long over due. The stand I started will be in. Blah blah. There are a couple lights at the end of the tunnel and I will focus on fixing this and hopefully moving forward.

I'll start the maintenance work this weekend.

I know you're planning a Phoenix project, and I'll be looking for it

If I may suggest ...
Nows the time to go nuts, right ?
I ran 2 new circuits for my system, both with surge duplexes to protect everything. 1 circuit for the DT and 1 for the sump. I also built a big panel of GFCIs for individual hardware units, with each tied into my Reefkeeper PC4s
7 months and no problems with any of the hardware on either the surge or the individual GFCIs

Could you post a pic. This is what I want to do. Switches to turn off pumps fit maintenance, etc.

I'm an not an electrician but my neighbor is. I'm hoping he can wire me up.

Sure, I'll post some stuff for ya
Having an electrician Pal is a big help, but I did this all on my own and I'm sure you can too

Definately nothing pretty, and I should have built a waterproof version
From my build, page 20, but there are other pages too

I didn't incorporate switches as I can turn off the GFCIs if needed, or unplug stuff, or turn off stuff in the Reefkeeper
Manually tripping the GFCIs may or may not shorten the life of the outlets, but it keeps me testing them

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx136/Gregzz4/75%20Gallon%20Build/DSC01013.jpg

My PC4s (reefkeeper powerbars) are plugged in directly to the Surge Duplexes (hopefully protecting the circuitry), as are my Ground Probe and Utility Panel (bottom right section of pic - 4 duplexes)
I wired regular and heavy duty 'pigtail' plugs from the GFCIs, and they plug into the PC4s for control of the hardware

The relays you see (and there are 3 now) are just for 'run dry' and the ATOs are still functioning on their own. The floats on the relays protect the ATO powerhead and heater, and shut down the ATO pumps, in the event of a low water condition.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions Pat, or other members for that matter

gregzz4

Some more pics for ya Pat

I cut a hole in the wall between my DT and Sump
My wife is soooo understanding, yet I know I'm still pushing my luck

1 Surge protector on the right, but I've since changed it to 2.
The far left 20amp outlet is inconsequential as it's for my office AC and other stuff

The pictured right outlets are on their own 15a and plenty for my sump.
They power my skimmer, reactors, fuge and return pump, chiller, uv, QT, ATO ... pretty much everything except the DT
I did all the math and it's enough

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx136/Gregzz4/75%20Gallon%20Build/Panel-1.jpg

Here you'll see where I added another relay

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx136/Gregzz4/75%20Gallon%20Build/DSC01658.jpg

I have another 15a for the tank and it is another Surge Duplex
It services the lights, vortechs and battery backup for the vortechs. Plus an extra outlet for whatever I want power for.
Sorry I don't have a better pic for ya, but you get the idea

Stand is looking good.
Is the section on the left going to be a storage cabinet?

The left side will house my ATO and 12 gallon reservoir. The right will hold my auto doser and chems on the bottom and the top I may try incorporate a space for electricals. This is undecided.

The electrical depends on space and safety.

Both undetermined. But the left is solid.

Here is how I plan to attach panels. I drilled holes on the top frame and will use a peg/magnet system.

The top of the removable panel will have pegs to drop into the holes... The bottom will have "Rare Earth" magnets to hold it closed.

Can anyone help me out with some thoughts or opinions?

As you can see, the old box is almost impossible to access with the cross brace. The bigger box will allow access to remove algae or a fish if one gets in.

Progress. Two panels built. All oak. You will see the dowel system I developed for my panels. They pop into holes on the metal tube frame. Very quick to take them off.

I need the trim for them yet. I'll build all the panels first then trim them out, decoratively and to tie the panels together.

The holes for the pegs...

I like what you did with the peg design for the stand panels. I've been trying to figure out a good way to cover my sump area. Might have to do something along those lines.

How's the Dinos doing?

Thanks. Took some time to figure out how to make the panels. But they are fantastic.

The dinos... Just started attack two. With a higher dosage. From 17/ml every two days to 20ml.

The dinos are turning color to a brighter green. I hope this is a good sign.

Well happy to say, after a long year, the Dino's are almost beaten.

Mostly manual removal... however. I used biological warfare against the dinos.

I had a red slime out break. The first time I removed it, i noticed the dinos reduced. So I let it get way out of control intentionally as I found it was stronger and more resistant than the dinos and choked out their light source. About once a month I siphoned the Slime out and each time the dinos were lessened.

Maybe the slime was a result of dying dinos, but I dont care. It worked and I see a tank in the future again

Hi Paddy have you though of using a shop vac to clean up those annoying dinosaurs? My kids constantly throw those everywhere and I found when I sucked them up I never seen them again. Shop vacs also work great for slimy messes you don't want to clean up with a rag.

Another alternative would be a wife that forces you to shut down your tank. But that's a whooole different ballpark.

I hope this helps with your problem because I like to help out where I can.

Yeah I'm still kicking around. I'm a single dad now so my children have taken up pretty much all my time. Surprisingly I still have all my equipment and even dried my LR. In the future I would love to do another tank but for now it's just going to be stored. I came to a conclusion not to sell because I have everything, why get rid of it!?

It's at 95%. Not sure if the remaining algae is Dino or if its actually hair. No bubbles. No stringy ****e. No slime. Just skinny hairy stuff.

Easy. Take stick. Repeatedly best self over head until completely bonkers. Then siphon.
