Ok I just measured my magnesium levels after a water change and its way low. I measured about 800 ppm. So I pickup up some Kent Magnesium and it saies to add 1/4 tsp for every gallon. So for my 30 gallon tank I need 7 1/2 tsp... That seems like a lot... No?

1/4 tsp per gallon will increase it by how much? I suspect you will need a lot more than 7.5 tsp to get it to the level you need. Just do it over the course of a few days, it is recommended you don't increase by more than 100ppm per day.

It saies add that much per day to bring the level to between 1250 and 1350. It will rise 18.3 ppm/day. So I just dose that much a day till I reach those levels... Oh um yeah I got it figured out.

I guess the amounts have to be that high because it is like one of the top 3 ingredients in sea water right?

This calculator might help, although it doesn't look like Kent dry Mg is on the list. It should still help give you an idea of the amount needed to get up the NSW levels.

I get my calcium and magnesium from the Chemmaster (http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=67). I have a large system and this is the most economical way of dosing.

epsom salt from a drug store, its cheap and it works. I also ordered bulk mag chloride for chemmaster. Most people use as a mix of both mag sulfate and mag chloride.

Still think it's something to bring the levels up for my water changes I need to add nearly a cup of bulk Mg and I'm only changing out 20g at a time.

Well I picked up some Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate U.S.P from my Save on Foods. I needed grocery's so I thought I would check on the price and it is cheaper ($5 for 2kg). Yeah with magnesium chloride I am dosing the same ingredients as the Kent Marine product so I will get some of that aswell.

According to the Reef Chemistry Calculator I need about 500 grams... I don't have a scale... Approx how much will give me a 100 ppm increase?

All of my live stock is in my signiture. For lighting I am running 4 T5HO 24" Bulbs (1 Atinic, 1 Coral Growth(pink), 2 10 000K). I have 3 power heads (1 Koralia 2, 1 Koralia 750, 1 Koalia nano with the 2 and nano on all the time) Red Sea Prism skimmer and a fluval 405 canister (yes I clean weekly).

I have about 55lbs of live rock rangeing from 10 years old to new stuff and about 30lbs of live araganite sand.

I really should put my tank in the tank journal, but its not done yet  (my wife saies it never will be... I tend to agree)
