So some of us had brunch today with Ms L. We all agreed that she needs more excitement in her life, maybe a new direction. The first thing to do was to get her a tattoo and Ms L thought that might be interesting. We need you canreefers to make some suggestions. Some of the ones that came on the table:

1) A Canadian Flag
2) the Phrase " Suck You " with the Rolling Stones Trademark
3) No Mas

You Get the idea...but keep n the bounds of civility or the mod police will shut us down

SPS frag(s?) prize for the best idea(good or bad) ....gotta get it at the reefers meeting:mrgreen:

Location of Tattoo...TBA later or where appropriate

MODS: This is okay with Fishoholic...check with her too

I have a few tat's now and looking to get another soon. I have a 6" scorpion on my right calf, and eagle on my left shoulder blade and a mid-evil battle axe maltese cross with a willie g. harley skull in the middle. Looking to get a grizzy bear head on my left calf, as if it was ripping through my skin. All my tat's have a very definite meaning in my life, so with that said fishaholics tat should be her MOST favorite or most wanted fish. I would love to see a Volitain Lionfish tat all fanned out.

"2) the Phrase " Suck You " with the Rolling Stones Trademark" I like this one but I'd replace the
'S" with an "F" :)

I have a couple ideas for a new Tat but I'm keepin them to myself, cause thats just how that goes:)

Ummmm.... I don't know the lady in question -and tats are very personal things- but in keeping with a reefy theme, how about something like "Salty!" or "I Sin on the Salty Side". Perhaps with a fish with an oversized tongue licking the 'y'. Or hey....use the Rolling Stones lips with "Salty" underneath !

If you want to go on the nerdy side, simply tat her ideal water parameters somewhere !

 Wayne, Steve (from little oceans) and I had brunch today. I mentioned how if I ever got a tattoo I'd want a maple leaf or Canadian flag. Needless to say the conversation went into a whole new direction with (lets say) "interesting ideas" of what they would tattoo on me

Cool lionfish tattoo.

why not keep it simple and just give yourself a tat of a King Angelfish :)

My king angel (pic. in avatar) is my fav. So while it's a great idea for a tattoo I think I'd just barely be able to handle a small maple leaf on my arm, never mind a whole multi coloured fish.

OH come now Laurie, if I can do 3 fairly large tat's you can do a little one, as I have a MAJOR HUGE phobia of needle's.

I would suggest you put it just above your ankle, you will hardly feel it.

I'm not scared of needles, one single needle poking you in the arm doesn't even hurt, however one little needle poking you many many times in the same spot over and over again, I think would hurt....a lot! Somehow, from what my friends who have tattoo's tell me, I will definitely feel it. Also years ago I watched my friend Jay get half of his arm tattoo, and while he was trying to show that it didn't hurt, every time he flinched you could tell it did.

 Nope, but now I want to watch Waterboy, it's been awhile since I've seen that movie.

If I ever got a tattoo I want to make sure I wouldn't regret it 10-30 yrs from now. I know I wouldn't regret a maple leaf or Canadian flag.

However after seeing the lionfish tat. and thinking about what Dawn said about getting a tat. of my fu man chu, I can't help but think that would look cool, but I'm not sure I could handle the pain of a larger tattoo.

This could be great, one of the strips could be the bar and then the leaf.

Ya I was just thinking the maroon clownfish could make a cool looking flag.

Side profile, the maroon body the thin while stripe around it's head then the middle stripe a white maple leaf then the thin white stripe around the tail. Ohhhh.....I like it

Cool leaf tat. Mark. I still love the waving flag like Mike's though, but I also really love the uniqueness of a canadian flag (only white maple leaf instead of red) clownfish which I think would look good on my ankle.

ooh I'd love a half sleeve of a reef with fish!! I already have a half sleeve though and am not getting another one, too diesel for me. Maybe body side or leg though would be good!!

A great spot for a flag tattoo is shoulder blade.

For the ladies, always keep in mind what the tattoo will look like with a dress on... So consider coloring and placement of your tattoo. (my half sleeve is flowers so its good with a dress)

And, Lucky Strike in Edmonton is a fantastic place for tattoos. They do more art pieces than pick something from the wall and tattoo it on, but you'll be sure to get great work done there on whatever you choose to do. All the folks there have portfolio's for you to browse through as well so you can be sure they do a good job. I looked around for quite a while before I decided where I wanted to go... its rather permanent!

Because my tattoo is on the larger side for a girl, a lot of people ask me if I regret it. And the answer is no way! I don't take life THAT seriously, its only skin! Oh, and a lot of people ask me this: what about when you are 70 and have a half sleeve? I personally think I'll have more things to worry about then, or less perhaps, but I am pretty sure I still won't care, plus I'll be a badass old lady. haha

Anyways, think about it well! I think tattoo's are great and I love them, but not something to rush into immediately. It will be a great memory for you always, a piece of art, and a tribute to whatever you choose or not. Some people get tattoos of pizza cause they like pizza.

So two years ago the idea of getting a tattoo has suck with me. More specifically the idea below I've been wanting.

How about a small clownfish with a white maple leaf like one of it's stripes

So two months ago I was at a friends wedding and her sister-in-law had an amazing tattoo on her leg
http://www.joannatwood.com/g38.html

I asked her who did it and where was it done, and found out Jo ann Atwood from Urge II Tattoo did it. Went to her website and liked her work so I checked out the shop and met with her (2 months ago) and my appointment is tomorrow!!!!!OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the drawing she did, I asked her to change the bottom of the leaf stripe so that it has a bottom to it.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii53/Laurie_Morin/Snapbucket/C6443CDF.jpg

I also want her to change the back (front side) fin so it is smaller (more proportionate to the smaller front fin in front) and erase the line over the back bottom fin by the tail. I haven't had a chance to tell her about the last 2 changes I want to make (I've been sick and I lost my voice and was busy) but hopefully if I go in a bit early it won't be to hard to make the changes before we start, they seem like easy fixes.

I've wanted a tattoo for a very long time now, always wanted a maple leaf or Canadian flag or something like that. Two years ago when this thread was started and the clownfish idea was said I've really wanted it done. Now I'm in disbelief that tomorrow it's actually going to happen!!!!!!! Must admit I'm freaked out about how much it's going to hurt  It's not a huge tattoo so I should have no problem sucking it up and getting it all done in one sitting, I figure it should be around 3hrs worth of work, at $150 an hour I hope it's not much more then that! Here's hoping I can withstand the pain and get it done!!!!!

I think they do that because they don't know how well you are going to sit... My last piece on my calf was quoted initially at 4 hrs (6x6") for the black, it only took Rich at Urge about 50 minutes with no breaks while in the same time period, another customer two chairs over from me took about 3 smoke breaks...the clock doesn't stop if you want to call a time out.

Just get a good night sleep, put a good meal down range (stay away from coffee or milk products if you're feeling nervous) a couple hours before and you'll do fine

...and don't forget the pics.

Don't be afraid..don't worry if it's going to hurt,or how much it's going to hurt.My 15 year old blessing of a daughter got a start on her first a few weeks ago.I'm fairly heavily tattooed on both my arms..and talked to her about it a few times before the day. She's an angel, always at home every night, not running around the streets at night like others her own age.I kept telling her..your not going to die, your not going to bleed to death...and don't cry.I took time off for the event as i wasn't missing it for nothing. It's big and i think you should have a plan right from the start..not like me,here and there..go big or go home. She toughed it out..5 needle outline, and a bit of black shading, the colors going in,in a few weeks. And not one tear :) ribs are hardcore !! and the last flower is close to the groin, made me shudder..

I know a guy that had the outline done on his ribs and called it quits... hurt too much. Upper arm will be no problem though. Feet and ribs are the ones that are suppose to suck the worst, but everybody is different. The inside of my upper arm/bicep didn't bother me at all and some people can't take it in there.

Good luck with your tattoo today Laurie! I got mine a number of years ago and I just remember it felt like being scratched repeatedly in the same spot for a period of time. My artist was great and if he noticed it bothering me, would stop for a few minutes.

if the pain gets too much, just pinch your leg.

it'll distract your brain from the pain on your arm. true story

All done!!!!! Did it all with no breaks :surprise: finished in 2hrs. Definitely hurt more in some spots then others and the colour hurt more then the outline but all in all not as horrible as I had thought it would be

Hey Laurie,

Are you intending on getting the bands filled in with white in time?

I wouldn't bother, white is really hard to do. A little sun and it's gone.

+1 most tattoo artists I know only use white to mix with other colors as it will not last on its own.

Laurie, did they not tell you to keep it wrapped for 24-48 hrs?

Looks great btw. :thumb:

Need to get something going on my 4th tattoo, a grizzly looking like its ripping through my left calf. ( go figure eh )

The bands were filled in with white, it's red and sore now so it isn't showing very well. Apparently when it heals up the white should "pop" or at least that what my tattoo artist said. After 6 weeks I do get a free touch up so if the white isn't showing too well I'll have her go over it again.

Thanks Grizz. They told me 2-4 hours, so I did for 4hrs I would of been happy to keep it wrapped longer but thought I should do what I was told so I don't mess it up. They said you can wrap again if needed for work but it was better not to. Even Doug said that it's better to let it breathe and heal and not have it wrapped for to long :noidea: Just followed the at care home sheet I was given.

I was warned that the white could fade over time but I wanted the bands white so she did them white.

You can definitely see that she threw some white in there. The way that you have to look at white is that it will fade and it may turn yellow. Worst case, you have a gold stripe clown!

 that will work. I'm also fairly white to begin with so I imagine its hard to tell the difference.
