well I got a female mandrin from a friend and I noticed for the last few days they have been following each other around. tonight I saw what i think is part of their mating dance and managed to get a pic also.. (I got the finger shortly after :mrgreen: )

That's cute.

Keep your eye on them in the evening after your main lights go out and the tank is lit with PC's. That's when they like to swim to the surface to breed.

I'm going to take some video showing my mandarins eating freeze dried plankton at the surface. It was a nice surprise to see.

at the surface? hmm they seam to be cleaning a spot off on the lower 1/2 of my overflow box..

They don't lay eggs on a solid surface. From what I've seen from my pair and also read from other's experiences, they merge at the surface and then in an explosive act, the eggs are scattered at the surface of the water column. The fertilized eggs then float off and get carried away by the current.

Very nice shot Steve. I must figure out the sex of mine and find a healthy mate, someday.
