Typically reef tanks do not use a glass lid, it lets more light in, facilitates evaporation (for cooling) and provides easier access. Unless you're stocking known jumpers, I would stick with the light only.

I have been using egg crate for about a year and it works very well. Tried glass lids, and my tank heated too much and almost lost everything after 1 day with the glass lid on.
Egg Crate is cheap and holds up VERY well. Even with 2 x 250W Metal Halide lights only inches away, I have yet to see any melting or noticable warpage of it.

Putting a glass lid on a salt water tank greatly inhibits the necessary gas exchange that takes place at the waters surface.
Egg crate or screen is a much better method, with egg crate being the one to allow better air and light access to the tank.
