This is a neat little co-current skimmer that'll fit in the back of an Aquaclear 200 to save tank space. Perfect for small nano reefs.

Hi Sam. So hows this new skimmer working. This may be my answer to skim a little of off my other tank.

How much?

Works well. No complaints. Was around $45 (overpriced) but no one else carries it. You also need to get an air pump. A Hagen maxima should be more than enough.

They have been collecting dust at a local wholesaler for years. last I saw it, the dust was about 2cm thick, not a big seller. I thought it was discontinued?

I remember seeing those in the wholesaler warehouses too. A few places back in the day had these hanging on their shelves but I don't see them anymore.

From looking at the picture, you took the mounting bracket off, and just put the skimmer in the Aquaclear. I bought one last night for $21.99. I hooked it up to the Optima that was sitting around gathering dust. I left the bracket on, and the collection cup filled up overnight, so I guess the pump needs turning down. Do you find it hard to adjust properly

No, I seldomly need to make any adjustments. You might have to wait for the skimmer to break-in though before you get any consistency. Are you using a multi-valve like this to control the air?

The Optima even at its lowest setting is too powerful. So, you can have 1 valve going to the skimmer and have 1 valve to relieve the backpressure of the pump.

No, I don't have a valve. I will pick one up this evening. I also find that there a few bubbles in the tank I could do without. :frown:
