I need a new HOB skimmer. Eventually it will be on a 120g with shrooms, zoas and clams.
I've been looking at the Deltec MCE600, is this skimmer any good? are there any better ones out there?
At the moment I have a C&C HOB skimmer....there is a good reason these guys aren't in business any more, this thing has gnawed on my last nerve :mad2:

My requirements for a skimmer are simple....plug and play, no dumping gallons of water on the floor, easy to clean and it should produce reasonable amounts of skimmate

OH MY GOODNESS Marie...I just got a used MCE600 and LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! It is quiet, skims like crazy and am just WOW'd. Maybe there is better one out there but I am thrilled with this one.....and I've read EVERY review out there on it! TOTALLY plug and play and forget..you just have to check the skimmate control here and there...it's AWESOME!

the only other one that i would look that would be the ATB multi cone skimmer used in HOB configuration. But I love my MCE600 and MCE300 both great skimmers, cant go wrong with a deltec or ATB, ive tested my MCE600 with a drwyer flow meter, and it pulls 400-480 LPH of air (new 1 piece pin wheel)

I know that Leah has one that she put on her tank she may have that one for sale ,but don't quote me its quite the skimmer.... the 500 is pretty cool too it fits right in the tank too I gave her a hand putting that one in and well a few cuts here on the trim and there but it looked perfect in the 95 wave.

Oh I never even considered the 500 model.... fitting inside the tank would be even better and it's not like I need to overskim the tank if all I have are ricordea, zoos and clams

Marie if you can with the 500 MCE to look like the 600 with the over flow from the collection cup like the 600. then you wont have a problem.

A problem with what?? collection cup overflowing? I'm hoping to put the skimmer inside the tank so overflowing hopefully won't be a big deal

no What i mean is the 600 has the overflow collection pipe so if the cup overflows its re skimmed again and again not causing a over flow
