Kelowna / Okanagan Frag Swap

Hey everyone,

Over the past while there has been some interest in having a frag swap meet and greet.

I would be willing to host such an event at my house, on a weekend. Middle of May or early June would be ideal for me to host.

Any interest?

What I can frag down:

30-40 heads of candy cane
8-10 heads of hammer coral
about 8x12" of GSP growing on glass ;)
lots of green palys

all of those for sure, as they are almost more of a pest in my tank than keepers.

Frags frags frags! Why is it we don't do this more often? Seems to be more and more Canreef members from Kelowna

I'm going to be out of town for periods during April and May, so June 5th or 12th would be ideal. Would also be nicer once the weather is a little warmer, sit out on the patio :)

Sounds great, thanks for getting the ball rolling on this and also for offering to host the event. Not sure I have much different to offer, mostly things that I've already seen listed, stuff that's getting out of hand in my system, GSP, hammer, common brown zoas. I have some nifty macroalgae too though. I guess I'd be more of a 'customer' at this event. Would like to snag some more 'colourful' zoas than the common brown polyps I have. Maybe a small sps frag, but might wait until I upgrade for that.

Sounds like we might be able to get a decent amount of people to meet up! My home has a pretty open floor plan, so isn't too bad if a bunch show up at once. Might have to open up the arcade if too many people show up ;)

I know it's early in planning but did you decide on a firm date? We can make it on the 5th but not the 12th, but whatever works for you guys is fine and if I have frags I may be able to send stuff with another member from Kamloops if they're going. No worries.

Steve I would thing that you would be allowed without a dought as you are a member and a very good contributer to the forum. You can not help it if moving and getting every thing agonized is your priority right now. Once settled in you will set that tank up. It would be nce to see you there.

I was hoping to get some replies from Starry and H2o2 about their schedules as both work out of town. No offense to anyone, but I would prefer to pick a date so they both could come. Starry has supported previous frag swaps, and always has nice frags. H2o2 is a very knowledgeable reefer to have around, and he likes to talk a lot which is good for these meetings :P

They sure can if they wish to. In fact for things like zoas its a good idea to post pics if possible as its hard to see what your getting when they are closed and in a bag.
I'm making a list myself, have a few surprises too!

For those that dont have frags to trade, you can allways purchase, or just come out to see whos who.

Hello everyone, Starry has set the date, time and location for the Frag Sale/Swap.

June 12 @ 1:00pm Denny's Resturant in Kelowna

If you are bringing corals please have them individually bagged (zip lock bags are fine) and stored in a styrofoam container.

Everyone has to at least order a beverage from Denny's as its a business, we may want to use this location again for the next sale/swap.

Everyone is welcome to attend, please reply to this post if you are coming.

Hi have a cube that has not seen water if some one want it I can bring it down with me.

It's a 34 Gallon Neo Nano Aquarium has everything it came with plumbing stand tank sump pump. also has a GLO T5HO light never used also has hanger kit for a pendent. Picked it up for a frag grow tank wife is not to keen on the idea but is OK with it. If no one wants it I will be putting water in it and moving the frags over to this tank. It will go up for sale anyways for a bit more because it will include some fish, rock and maybe a some frags. I'd like $500.00 OBO as the list price is 799.00 without light. marine depot has them for 599.00 US plus shipping and it dose not come with a light.

A few red monti cap frags.

Med size red monti cap colony.

Red encrusting monti with white polyps (mini colony)

2.5" Electric green acro frag.

2" birdsnest frag.

2 branching hammer frags (one with 2 heads, one with 3 heads)

small frag of blue polyp birdsnest.

purple brown zoa colony

Tonga bullseye shroom (4) rock

2 orange/green ricordia on a piece of rubble.

green palys

blueish palys

small frag of star polyps.

Green and orange acan on frag plug. 7-8 heads

Now, as promised, the surprises:

I WILL NOT BRING THESE ITEMS UNLESS INTEREST IS EXPRESSED HERE.

1. Green branching hammer colony 50ish heads.

2. Bright green star polyps on manmade live rock (contained, wont spread).

It was nice to meet some new faces and do some trades I am thinking of taring my rock work apart to get those 2 peppermint shrimp out so they will leave the corals alone I think They will go into my kids tank and fight it out with the one in there. Leah I hope you don't spend all the money in one place...

Well I made it home by 8:5pm after a bit of shopping and a met up with a friend in Vernon. every thing acclimatized and dipped in Lugol's Solution. Every thing is comming out the zoes are taking their time and 1 mushroom decided to come off the rock but it went into the rubble bin.

Next time I should have a bit more selection, by the way the 24g tank I have for sale is a deep sea Neo nano tank.

It was great meeting/seeing everyone. I really think we should try to do that a couple times per year. The couple of corals I got all are doing well. I let them acclimate all afternoon yesterday and finally put them into my tank just before lights out. Everything was happy today on the frag rack and so I mounted them this afternoon.

We'll see how they fair with my water over the next few weeks.
