I have an empty 46 gallon bow front waiting for something to move in. Lighting is from a one bulb 36" cheapy fluorescent so corals are out of the question. I have an Eheim canister filter for filtration and about 20 pounds of live rock that is presently waiting in a 10 gallon tank. The live rock has aiptasia so I was thinking I would put it back in the 46 g. tank and add some sort of butterfly to clean it up and and eventually turn it into a sea horse tank.

Is this setup suitable for keeping sea horses?

Thanks Leah. So a skimmer would not be necessary? How many ponies could I keep in a 46 gallon tank?

I would definetly use a skimmer. I had two pairs in a 25 gal. mine were dwarf.. so I guess it depends what model you plan to keep. Search the net for info on how to keep seahorses and other questions you may have about keeping them. Some great info out there to help prepare for them.

Also Key equine has them so you could p.m. her for some info too!

Definitely skim if your gonna do ponies (messy eaters)......and be mindful of temperature(78 is hot)

How about a dwarf fuzzy lionfish????.....thats something Ive always wanted....
