I have EasyMax and mine is on average around 500 per month. Probably jump 150-200 more per month since i am having the 155 tank. Now i hate looking at my utility bill.

What is yours?

I get my bill electronically. This way I can set up a spam filter and have it go straight into the appropriate email folder upon arrival.. Then that folder gets purged every so often to make room for more junk email.

RO water alone is probably half the bill

my grow lights only run 6 hours and the corals seem fine. I'm also thinking of getting those new koralias that run 6 watts for 1400gph!!

Thios isn't just Power bill's is it??? You must be including all, heat, power, water? My power alone is only about $150-300/month. Depending how much I powdercoat. I havnt looked at a gas bill in a lonmg time though, The Mrs takes care of the bills now.

About $200 a month with 4 tanks running(570g). When we had 17 tanks(1200g), it was about $300.

!!

Now you bring this up. I was always wondering so for a 98% rejection rate. If I am collecting 120 gallon of good water per month. Does that mean i waste 6000 gallon of water(well i tried to use some for watering plant)

Hahah good idea Kien, if you are getting those new Koralias, sell me your Tunze 6105s ok?

my $500 includes gas/water/electricity and I only have one 155 tank going. Before, it was a little bit under $300 without the tank

My utilities topped out at over $400 a couple months ago. Glad summer is coming...

My last bill was for 700$. I suspect my neighbour's have a grow op and are stealing my electricity. I only have 2 tanks and it's hard to believe they are responsible for that high a bill.

Nope.

Another thing I'm looking into right now is one of those zero waste water kits from BWI plumbing. Can hook into your existing RO unit. I don't completely understand how they work tho.. Something about pumping the waste RO water back into the hot water tank or something. I make more water than my plants can consume :-(

Wow $700! Yes I would have BC Hydro look into it for sure. My last bill was $400.00, that was for 2 months of hydro with a lot of Christmas lights on, 155fish tank, electric heat + hot tub.

You know the "bilboard" comming into chilli. The saying is so true. I'd get that power thing checked out. Wow $700.

Yikes. My wife probably files for divorce if my bill hits that high

I am interested in how it works too.

I think my hydro bill is about $100 a month. Water (with sewage and garbage) is about $40 a month. Should be interesting to see how much the hydro jumps with the new tank.

Hydro is $110/month, water is included in the rent and likely not metered.

You certainly are not tossing that much water. The R/O membrane is rejecting 98% of the dissolved solids, not the water. Depending on the pressure of the feed, your getting anywhere from 2:1 (Waste/product) to 10:1 ratio. I run very high PSI and dual membrane in paralelle so my waste is actually lower than 2:1.

Condo life is the way to go. I lucked out and my condo fees pays ALL the bills (except internet/cable, but in many condos electricity is not included) so my bill is $0. I still try to conserve energy but I didn't sweat at all when I decided to get my tank.

Impossible its your tanks. I have a 210g with 75g sump, 120g with 90g sump/seahorse & 3 other fw & sw tanks. My hydro bill for just the tanks are about $70/month. (based on the old per kw rate, not the new split rate one though).

Wow, I'd put a watt logger (I think you can find them under the name Kill A Watt) meter on your tanks and log exactly how many watts they are using a month. Might also consider flipping your breaker to all your exterior plugs when you aren't using them to reduce the likelihood of anyone 'borrowing' your power.

The Kill A Watt meter that I have has a function to put in the cents per KwH and my 190g tank - everything included runs at ~$34.85 per month. I had everything going into this thing with a couple of power bars....for a month.

My last Hydro (electric) bill...$470...However, I only get a bill every 60 days or so. That means I'm about $235/month. The house is heated/cooled with an electric heat pump. While the heat pump saves me energy overall, it has the effect of boosting my electric bill while reducing/eliminating my natural gas bill.

Yup....water is free.

kien

Hmm I wonder.. Is it free or is it rolled into your taxes?

Lampshade
03-12-2010, 06:44 PM
Water could be free, in surrey it's not metered. so yes, we pay an avg. in property taxes, but, it doesn't matter really how much we use. I was actually thinking of making a waste water cooling system by running tap water through a coil in my sump, then down the drain :S... i don't know if i hate the enviroment enough for that yet though :S

as for the hydro bill, mine before the tank was 80 a month, after i'm at about 100. Calculating it out, seemed to be just about right. This was in the summer when i wasn't heating my house, that makes nubers go all over the place, especially with our recent february spring time.

but heres the numbers i found for my 55gal tank anyways:

175W MH x 8 hours = 1.4KW/d
2x54W T5's x 10 hours = 1.08KW/d
Rio 2500 Pump = 49watts x 24 hours = 1.2KW/d
Rio 1100 Pump = 23 watts x 24 hours = .55 KW/d
4 x aquaclear 201 powerheads = 6x4x24 = .58KW/d

and heaters... but can't say how long they're on, and it's not wasted heat, since it heats my house? right? Thats what i tell my wife anyways.

So overall i have 3.73KW/d, and rounding up up for PLC, LED moonlights, etc, 4KW/d x 30 = 240KW of energy at $0.0637 is $15.23 a month, so seems about right.

It's easy to see how some nice lights on a big tank could really pull that up, but to get a $700 bill something's wrong, unless you have a nice big house, poorly insulated, and a chilly wife who turns up the thermostats whenever you're not looking. Mine does too, and i have a $250 bill for a townhouse through the winter :(
