View Full Version : What a craptastic evening

So I had a crappy day to say the least. I'll start from the beginning; Yesterday I noticed (once the lights went on) that my new lionfish had a nipped up fin  I watched the tank closely for a long time (even stood back off to the side as not to be noticed) and the other fish in the tank all ignored the lionfish. I figured something was up though because his fin didn't nip itself. I checked on him this morning and there was no more damage done to him so I thought maybe he'd be ok. Unfortunately when I got home from work his other fin was all nipped up

I knew this wasn't a good sign and even though I never saw any of my fish nip at him, I knew one of them (pretty sure it was my Toby puffer) had to be nipping him. So as much as I hated to do it I had to re-home my new little lionfish  However thank-you Doo for being able to provide him a good home on short notice. It was very hard to say good-bye to him but it would of been much worse to come home tomorrow and find him hurt even more or worse dead

On top of all that the little blenny I had to re-home (to my boyfriend's Dad's tank) yesterday, had to re-home because the poor little blenny kept going into the overflow in my tank. Well I found out today that he is getting picked on by a hawkfish in his new home  Apparently the hawkfish beat him up and then the blenny darted into the rock at the back of the tank and Steve's Dad hasn't seen him since

So needless to say it's been a craptastic evening *sigh*

Thanks Dawn I need *hugs* right now.

BTW if Steve's Dad finds and catches the blenny that's getting picked on (which is a big if because he hasn't seen the blenny all night) would you want him? He's pretty small about an 1-1/2". He looks like this http://www.liveaquaria.com/images/categories/product/p-88871-orange-spotted.jpg I know you'd give him a good safe home if we are able to find and catch him.

Holey crap! Are you sure he looks like that? If you would be interested I would love to have him shipped here, overnight. I've been looking for one of those for 5 years.

Edit: sorry to hear about your other fish. I got a little excited about the orange spotted blenny and forgot to post my condolences. It sucks getting new fish and having to rehome them after you've already fallen in love with them :(

If Dawn or Christy can't take him I can give him/her a home. I have nothing in my tank that would pick on him.

I unfortunately can't take him. I fear that in my small tank he'd be picked on by my tailspot blenny.

That is what he looks like 100% sure. However I don't know how or have the resources to pack and ship him. Also I have no idea if Steve's Dad will be able to catch him or not  and yes it does suck to have to re-home a fish you just bought and love

Thanks Carmen, as much as it sucked to do so I figured it was better to re-home him then come home to find him really hurt or dead.

i would have done the same thing Laurie... these little fish can be so mean, and it breaks my heart! (must be a girl thing) I won't tolerate my fish being picked on... but in my tank it's usually the mean one that gets the boot!

My tank could use a new blenny my old one did the overflow trick before i got it all covered in.

just curious my last lmb was really friendly, liked to come and nibble on and sit on my hnad whenever i was in the tank are they all like that?

The problem was, was that I wasn't sure which fish was nipping the lionfish's fins. Everytime I watched the tank all the fish would ingor the lionfish (even when I watched from a distance) so I didn't know who was being mean to him, but obviously someone was because his fins kept getting more nipped up each day. It might of been my Toby puffer as they are known to be fin nippers, but it's hard to say when you don't see it happening. Also Doo was willing to take the lionfish on short notice so it just worked out better that way.

I have to agree though, it sucks when fish are mean, my king angel is in that tank and she is the meanest fish I have ever seen. It's very tricky to find tank mates that will be safe in my fowlr tank.

FYI for everyone wondering about the blenny as far as I know there has been no sign of him in Gordon's (Steve's Dad) tank. Either he is hiding really well (which is possible, it's a 80g tank with a lot of rock in it) or the hawkfish killed him  Wish I would of known that the hawkfish was going to pick on the blenny before I gave him to Gordon.
