So, I've been at this for a year now and notice a lot of brown algae beginning to form. 120 gal footprint with an 8 bulb t5 unit over it.
I'm ordering new bulbs right away to combat the algae (and its been a year)and these are the bulbs I'm getting:

4 - G-mann Powerchrome t5 flourescent bulbs - Actinic plus
4 - URI 54W Aquasun t5 Flourescent bulbs (10,000K)

Any comments or something I'm missing?

best,
derek

Just curious why you went for the URI 10K (which I am not familiar with) over the G-mann Aqua-blue+ 10K.
Just to answer your question I think you have too many of the (Actinic Plus) Too many blues. I would consider 3x 10K 2 x 15K and 3 x 22K(blue) or even 2 x 10K 4 x 15K and 2 x 22K

When it comes down to it, its all about preference Derek If you like the blues in my tank then go with what you have (I actually have even more actincs plus than 4). I don't like Fiji purples as I find they are a very blah pink color but as Kevin has suggested there is much more than 1 way to outfit your fixture. My reasoning behind the extra blue is that blue light has a much higher frequency and smaller wave length than other colors which means it contains more energy. So far my corals have reacted very well and I do enjoy them more under actinic lighting.

I believe it adds the red spectrum back to the mix cause that is the first one to go in the water column and also makes the greens pop.

Not only greens, any color that fluoresces will pop under actinics. Quantum mechanics is such a... baffling topic.
