His tank is only 18" deep so I think 150W would probably be fine.

It does DEPEND on what you want to grow. I have found the 150w MH to be slightly inferior to a 4 bulb HO T5 fixture. As per Grizzes inquiry of either wanting a T5 or MH if considering a MH go with the 250W,(150's are hard to sell when you will inevitably upgrade in the future) 6 or 8 bulb HO T5 would suffice.

Hey Kevin, I like to get all the opinion I can. Do you think 2 - 6 bulb t5's would be good enough for a short time until I can get a couple more set's of T5's. I would like to keep my canopy a low as possible, correct me if I am wrong but the T5's would be a better option for this reason.

Just look at fishytimes tank Greg.

20" deep and he is running 2-36" 6bulb units and he's got one of the nicest SPS tanks in Calgary IMO. Your tank is 2" shallower... 2-48" 6bulb units work just fine over an 8foot tank. :)
