I know those maxea (CroceaxMaxima "hybrids") have been out for a while, but someone posted a link to a supplier's pictures on NR, and I thought some people might like to see them.
All I can say is that why do none of the clam shipments we see look anything like this???

WOW!!! That first one blows my mind!! I haven't been so impressed by a clam since... uh... nevermind.
Those are great looking clams but it's the same with corals, never seen anything even close in the LFS

Apparently it is all marketing. From my understanding is that they are just Croceas with great colours.

Yeah I sort of share the skepticism on what they're marketed as but ultimately I don't care BECAUSE I WANT THEM ALL!!!!!! Whatever they are, they're awesome.

Yeah, I've heard that too. Bu then look at the first clam - scutes, and croceas ain't gots none scutes from where I's comes from.
I seriously just wet myself!! Oh wait.. that's water from the tank. Nevermind.
They could call those "SuperUltraMaximalPrimus clams" for all I care, I want one (or three) !!

I posted this one awhile back. They were listed for about $100.00 and they are aquacultured.

Croceas can have scutes though. About 10 years ago I got chewed out on rec.aquaria.marine.reefs by Charles Delbeek because I said something similar about croceas not usually having scutes. I took his word for it because he was CHARLES FREAKIN' DELBEEK !! Bah... maybe these are hybrids or maybe they aren't .. either way they are seriously pretty.

I have 3 croceas and one of them has scutes ? They aren't super pronounced like maximas but they are clearly scutes :noidea:

Well, typically you never see them with scutes.
Either way, thems is some sweet clams.

Wild one won't have them since they bore into rocks.

Every clam has scutes, its just the size of, or the degree to which they are expressed. Croces just tend to have very minimal 'scuting' (if I can use that word? Haha).
Those are beautiful clams! Wow! I loooooove the first one Andestang posted!
