Hi all, I'm thinking of building my own tank 48x20x20 out of 1/2'' glass and wondering if it would be worth it. Does anybody know roughly how much it would cost me? and where I could get a decent price on glass in the lower mainland. Also if I use 1/2'' glass would I still need to brace the top of the tank?

Thanks

I was going to build my tank myself untill I found someone who will build it for less than I can purchase the glass for. O phoned a number of glass companies here and got a wide range of pricing but all were way too much.

Go to your lfs's and get a few of them to quote it, same with glass suppliers - that will tell you if it is worth it. I found a lfs that a a guy that builds tanks for them that isnt trting to retire eaqrly buy charge an arm and a leg for a tank:surprise:

Good Luck

Why are you using 1/2" glass? It seems rather thick for an aquarium that size. I think 3/8" would work just as well, wouldn't cost as much, and it would be much lighter.
