Hey folks I finaly finished a project I have been working on for months, thank God:D . I guess this is a shamless plug but I think you folks really could use it as a tool for IDing and researching reef keeping.
The first one is a Id Gallery using review post. It has over 450 coral pictures and thier discriptions to help folks ID what they have or simply gaze at the pics. It also has fish/inverts and so on. Let me know what u think Gallery (http://www.thepsas.org/reviewpost/index.php)
The other is a Library. It is a collection of pretty much every article related to reefing (and yes DSB's to :D ) Its located on the lower section of the forum. Library (http://www.thepsas.org/phpbb2/index.php)

Wow its really good to see you folks like it, it took forever :rolleyes: but I think folks will really use it as a tool.
psuedo that would be me and time is something I dont have a lot of :biggrin: thats probibly why it took so darn long.
Anyway feel free to stop in and say hello, we can talk about how good the canucks are going to do :idea: :lol: ...or reefs to if you must.

Well it is slow as a snail to load and all photos are [X]'d.. but atleast the site loaded this time. But only when I use the IP address.. if I use the domin name its poof.. no go...

I'm on Shaw, and they're both up no problem. It's 20 hops to get there, but they load OK.
Great resource from first glance, what a ton of work to get all that up.

For those who can't get it to work, what do you get when you run nslookup? Type "nslookup thepsas.org" on a command prompt. It could be that your DNS server has an older ip address cached. Show us the output so we can find out which DNS server you are using as well.

Darren had the same problem. I checked with our hosting service and there are no IPs blocked or anything. For some reason some folks can't get to our site. Darren used to be able to, but no longer. He is checking with his ISP for any answers. Are those that are having troubles using the same ISP by chance?

Chuck, they are, but most of us that can get there also use the same ISP. I believe it might have something to do with router tables managed by our ISP.

If they can reach the site by IP address but not by domain name, then it shouldn't be a router issue but a DNS issue. They are probably using different DNS servers which is what we can find out if they run nslookup or ipconfig. For example "ipconfig /all"
If it starts working after a while, then it sounds like the DNS server they were using had an older and different IP address that was cached and then eventually refreshed with the correct one.

Sam, I think all BC Shaw customers use the same DNS. Funny, but doing a trace from my web server gives me a "Dest. hosdt unreachable" erro. I can see the site fine though.

They probably filter traceroutes with their firewall. Still, I would like to see which DNS servers they are using to confirm the DNS issue. Whenever I see this type of problem from my clients, it has always been a DNS issue. Its very easy to diagnose as long as we get the output from their ipconfig or nslookup command.
What we should see in this case is that by tomorrow when all the DNS's have refreshed, everyone will be able to access that site just fine.
I have been trying since thursday or friday to get on there. no go. so if the DNS is refreshed each day that isn't the fix.

Could you do an "nslookup www.thepsas.org" and paste the entire output so I can find out what's going on? Thanks.
Edit. Opps. That should be "www.thepsas.org" and not "thepsas.org".

Sam, I can get thru using the 223.195 and 223.212 servers. If everyone else can run the ipconfig /all command (or winipcfg from the start > run box on some Windows) we can see if we all use the same DNS. I notice noone on RC has complained of this yet. Just Shaw people I think.
same result both addresses.
timed out.
Window doesn't stay open so I can cut n paste, and I guess XP doesn't have winipcnfg

Darren, open a command window first. Start > Run type "CMD (without quotes) and then type ipconfig /all
For those who can access the website by IP address (text only) but not domain name, we pretty much know for sure its domain name resolution problem. The reason people see "X" instead of the actual images is because when you look at the HTML source code, those image's URL's contain the domain name. Since we don't have domain name resolution, the browser can't find the image to download and so it puts the "X' there.

What puzzles me then is why http://www.thepsas.org doesn't give you exactly the same result as http://65.18.214.18
If domain name resolution is working, then when you go to http://www.thepsas.org , it should load the website slowly just like when you access by IP address.

Well, not sure which did it.. but I changed my primary DNS server to the other one provided by shaw.. and at the same time did a release all and renew.. and now the site works wonderfully :biggrin:
So everyone do that :idea:

Wow, what was this thread about originally? Oh yeah, the great IDingresource. Mike I would just like to say hats off to you. That library and gallery is just AWESOME!! Its about time something like that was put together and its fun to look at all the pretty pictures :mrgreen:
