Has anyone ever enclosed a steel stand ?? If so, how did you do it and do you have any pics ?

Thanks

I had an old steel stand I skinned with 3/4 plywood panels. I sunk 1/2 rare earth magnets into the plywood with a forstner bit, one on each corner of each panel then filled with wood filler, primed the inside and painted white, outside I stained a dark brown after doing all the edging. I only the two sides and the front. Gave me great access, all panels removable and was really easy and cheap. One sheet of 3/4 1 side good at windsor plywood and they did all the cuts for me.

I drilled holes in the stand and then screwed the wood to it from the inside.

here is a pic of the outside

I thought about doing it both ways, I was worried about the magnets because my grandson is pretty nosy lol and I wondered if the screws would have enough wood to get a good bite. I was maybe thinking of bolting the wood thru the steel on the corners and hiding the heads under the trim. Thanks for the input. Your stand looks pretty sharp Stir, did the scres hold it pretty solid ??

Heres one I did for a customer...screwed through the front, then covered the screws with the trim pieces....

Wow, really nice work & clean lines! Did they go for a hood, too?
When you build for a client, what do you finish it with - stain + Varathane?
