Mine worked pretty well for my tanks. What do you base this on?

come on man.
Thats a pretty bold statement.
How common is this knowledge exactly?, maybe you should check outside your head...lol
I've used remoras in the past, an excellent bang for buck skimmer.

You're listing all premium brands...lol
Of course those are good skimmers, but just because you're paying off a porsche doesn't mean that my smart car doesn't get me to work on time.

To say that only the most expensive skimmers should be bothered with is a naive and thoughtless comment IMO and sends the wrong message about this hobby, especially to new people.

Notice I said RAMORA PRO not AQUA C
and with mag 3's they work well and do produce as you call stinky nog.

remora pro is an aqua C.. Aqua C is the manufacturer and the deltec and remora pro ARE on opposite sides of the preformance line. I have used both, they are not comparable. The remora works for what it is but if money wasn't a concern i would go deltec and not look back.

Sorry my mistake I thought the Aqua C was the smaller one. I stand corrected.

It's a bold statement because I have used HOB Skimmers for years. I have used all the Brands that I listed. The Aqua C is by far the worst HOB. It lacks way down in performance. This knowledge is from people that actually used all the brands and know the difference from stinky nog to very light green water from the Aqua C. People raving about their so called great Aqua C don't know the difference.

Maybe you should do some research before you make a smart ass comment towards me. The Aqua C isn't the cheapest skimmer. That would goto the Euro Reef nano. The Aqua C and Tunze are relatively the same price, but the Tunze is a much better skimmer.

The best bang for your buck would be a Tunze 9002 or Euro reef nano.

I am listing premium brands because we are talking about HOB skimmers. If you didn't notice there isn't alot of brands that produce HOB skimmers and they're more expensive and lack in performance compared to a in sump skimmer.

I don't BS people. I tell it like it is. Not my problem if the truth hurts you. I expect something to perform for my money and the Aqua C did not. The message to the new people is don't waste your hard earned money on buying garbage.

The original post was asking to buy a deltec mce300 mce600 or Remora C pro skimmer. You can't compare a Deltec to Aqua C,and yes Aqua C is junk compared to a Deltec and I stand by this statement.

I'd offer a rebuttal in offense/defence but I've been to Airdrie...
I understand.

all jokes aside, I think that even some of the cheapest HOB skimmers do a decent enough job.
Nowhere near as good as some of the more reputable brands/makes though, that is 100% for sure; you get what you pay for.

Remora Pro IS a good skimmer. There are a lot of people who are very happy with it. I guess everyone has their point of view so why not recommend the good ones instead of harping on the ones you think are bad. I'm sure Aqua C is not going to suffer because you're not buying their stuff. Check out this article http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2009/1/aafeature2 and you'll see there is very little to substantiate what makes a "good" skimmer other than point of view.
