My current 175g system consists of 4 tanks all plumped together so I have decided to consolidate everything into a single 6 footer with a 30 sump and 30 fuge. This should give my white ringed tang some more room and let me get him a few more buddies !

The new tank is being built at elite aquatics, it measures 6 feet by 2 feet wide by 22 inches high and should be done within the week. Going to do a peninsula style with all of my LPS on a mountain around the over flow and all of my zoa colonies on a massive rubble pile on the other side of the tank.

Excuse my horrible paint skills but here's a basic diagram.
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/8243/tankvieqw.jpg (http://img689.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tankvieqw.jpg)

Current stock to be transferred from my two main tanks includes:
2 False Percs
2 Mandarin Dragonets
1 Thread Fin Cardinal
1 Dwarf Flame Angel
1 White Ringed Tang
various inverts

I'm interested in Tangs, Anthias and pretty much anything that anyone recommends for a 170g. Need to find some tang species that don't eat zoas as that's the focus of the tank but am open to suggestion. Anyone have any recommendations for fish are useful for a fish tank but are pretty interactive?
I will post more info about the system when I get a chance,
Levi

I have 4 Tangs and none of them have ever expressed interest in any of my zoos either.

As for stocking, I suggest a red coris wrasse! j/k!

Anyway, looks like you have a lot of open space so schooling fish would be cool. Perhaps barletts anthias?

Ahah Kien, thanks for the laugh spit a little coffee out on that one ! Hmmm, don't know where I heard that tangs ate zoas perhaps I should be asking are there any larger fish besides angels that will pick at zoas that I should stay away from?

Sorry Identification of the tang was on this page:

Never really had a definitive answer because he looks like 4 or 5 that people suggested to me, perhaps someone on here knows?

Thanks everyone, I'm so pumped for this tank I'm actually loosing sleep .
When I get home today I will post some more info and get a few photos of the stand.

You might be right sphelps, I will grab some more photos of flash right away here so we can try and make a positive ID. What ever he is he eats nori right out of my hand and has to be the funniest fish I have ever watched so I'm happy to send him to the 170.

TANK IS BUILT!!! All i can say is WOW, if anyone's looking for custom tanks give Colby at elite a call. The tank has beveled edges, is completely polished, has a sweet over flow, Euro braced and has to be one of the nicest tanks I have ever seen in person! Can't wait to set it up.

I hope your right Leah that would be amazing!!! I guess I will have to wait and find out. Here is what live aquaria has to say about it.

The Black Spot Tang, also known as the Black Spot Surgeonfish, is a hard-to-find gem for advanced aquarists. While juveniles may not feature standout coloration, with maturity and proper care, this fish develops beautiful orange accent markings against deep blues, blacks, and browns.

I payed like $25.00 for him so if he turned out to be a Black spot that would be a ridiculous find!

I would recommend the powder brown tang A.japonica.
I one with the orange on it.
I would not recommend the following because they are very difficult tanks to keep often getting sick for no apparent reason and dying and taking a few of their tank mates with them
---powder blue tang
---gold rim tang
---achilles tang

Go slow with the additions to the tank though to give your tank time to adjust.

Really nice tank and pics.

Spend a few months deciding which tangs you really like the most and that have a high likelihood of survival, wait a few months a choose very healthy tangs. Alert, plump, clear eyes, no spots or tears and than add them all at once to your tank with the lights off a keep the lights off for a day or two day Also avoid approaching your tank during that time to avoid stressing the fish.

Good Luck

PS make sure it is A.japonica The powder brown with the orange on it as they are often mislabeled and the golden rim tank is virtually impossible to keep

I have run into a problem, I was just told that it will take appx. 2 weeks for the silicone to dry before I should leak test it. Before this I thought it was 24-48 hours, anyone have some insight here? Tank was build Thursday morning and I want to set it up on this Wednesday so appx. 160 hours of drying time.

So I just realized I did the stupidest thing in the world. The tank is polished and has beautiful beveled edges but instead of putting anything under it I just set it on the stand. Just learned that's a big no no, apparently you can crack your tank REALLY easy by doing this so to anyone setting up a tank make sure you put plywood followed by a layer of foam down on top of your stand. Will grab new photos when I swap it over.

Here is an excellent article on anthias and keeping themby Scott Michael on anthias
http://www.reefs.org/library/talklog/s_michael_030401.html/view?searchterm=anthias

He does not recommend the purple queen.
My own experience and the experience of a few reefers concerning the lyre tail is poor.
I put them in as a shoal and one by one they just disappear.
Same thing happened when I tried again and I won't try them again.

Had a de-humidifier installed for the whole house about the time I installed by 54G so we should be good to go, and I think I will enjoy watching movies there even more .

Tank looks great! Will we see more pictures today? Have you had a chance to reaquascape yet? Also wondering if you will change your fixture or is it new too?

When I get home I will take some new photos, I'm diggin the aqua scaping though. Nope, I will stay with that fixture for a while no funds right now for an upgrade.

Wow, ZoaElite nice setup!

I could tell Elite/Colby's work anywhere... As you know, I don't like the guy... but will give him Kudo's when deserved... And I can say Colby knows how to build tanks... He built mine.

Great Job, I look forward to seeing more pic's

i agree the tank turned out pretty darn good. jay is especially good when it comes to clean silicone, eh? and the CNC work that jay does is just great. im always glad that we have Jay.

how is that pyroferus tang doing so far?

Thanks guys, yes I very pleased with Jay's work every tank I seem to get from him tends to be a little masterpiece ! The pyro is doing great, was eating out of my hand already! Also added a yellow and a powder brown and will be adding a yellow corris wrasse to complete the tank for now. I understand now why everyone is going for 6 foot tanks these tangs are better than cable TV .

I will be honest I keep looking at your pictures over and over again! I am in love with your tank. I thought I would never like a non bow or wave but this really has me thinking.
I am in awe of this one. Love your new additions, how is everyone behaving?
:mrgreen: Would love a full tank shot when you get around to it.

I always thought that tangs would be aggressive to each other right off the bat but already on day 2 there all schooling and cleaning the tank together. The combination of them, the flame dwarf and my 2 blennies has kept me pretty entertained in the last few days .
