View Full Version : stimulating Acro growth and ID

I have a rather large Purple acro that isn't really sprouting new tips. it has started encrusting the rock that it is on pretty good but i would like it to branch out a little more. any suggestions.

also can i get an ID?
Jon (lobster boy) its from you so maybe you can shed some light on it?

Hey, I know with some frags that i have gotten from other reefers that it took some time up to 3months before the coral got used to my water and then they start to take off, and then slow down and then speed up again.

whats your dosing schdule like, if you are needed to add more ca/kh then the SPS is consuming these stimulitng growth, also flow, light are important as well as nutrient poor water helps out alot.
Coral vitlizer and amino acids have helped my SPS grow.

Im keeping my Ca at 410 and my Dkh is at 9 as per the salifert test kits.

I have been dosing a drop of coral vitalizer as well as amino acids.

It is growing around the base of it i just thought it would be sprouting new tips. i was reading that if you frag the top that may promote some new growth. Anyone have experience with this?

I know its already encrusted but....if you mount your frags horizontally instead of vertically they will tend to form more branches....but as John said alot has to do with your dosing regime and if your "big three" are correct and stable....Ive had some pieces take months to settle in and grow.

thats a great point to add Doug, laying the frag down to have mroe branches, and i had even seen before, frags that were suspended in the water with no plug on the, using fishing line this way the coral would grow in all directions.

also, my experince with cutting the tip, has worked for me, they usually split double and sometimes even three way.
