Tangs For a 65G reef

I have a 65G setup that i have had for three months. We are just starting to stock it with fish. We really want to add a tang, but are not sure if they will work in our tank. Some websites say that for the Yellow tang, Hippo tang and the Tomini tang can fit in a 55 gallon tank, others say 75. I was just wondering if any has one of these tangs in a system less than 75g. Or would i have to get rid of it after a year or so? Any other suggestions for tangs that would fit...

I have 2 clownfish, 2 cleaner shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp, a brittlestar, tons of snails of every kind, and the only corals i have right now are Green Star Polyps. I plan to get some hammer corals or bubble corals in the near future.

IMO that tank is too small for a Regal I would stick with the Zebrasoma group. So Yellows, Scopas, Purple etc.

I agree. Of the three you listed, I would avoid the hippo, thats for sure.

kole tangs stay realy small and they are cheap and nice looking

Websites of Online stores and LFS and LFS themselves understate the tank size requirements for tangs because they are in the business of selling fish.

Your tank is too small for a tang.
Tang are swimmers and require the swimming room larger tanks provide. They scoot from one end of the tank to the other. Small tanks don't allow them to what they like to do.
Perhaps your next tank might be a 6footer. But it is always a mistake to buy a fish in the belief that you will upgrade to a larger tank later. Things change; a move, marriage, divorce and money etc.

Thanks for asking before you bought a tang and make sure you go slow and only add one fish per month (unless it a tiny one).

I agree. I have a 2" Kole Tang in my 90 gallon tank, and I would not want to put him in a smaller tank. He is too active.
