Has anyone done ant diving at las rocas, Margarita island or carcass? I just got certified for open water diving and I leave in 7 days to venezuela for 2 weeks. Anybody know good sites to hit?

Ok, sorry, I have to intervene. "Carcass" is a dead thing, "Caracas" is a city in Venezuela.

No idea where to dive. My family lived in Caracas before my brothers started approaching the age of conscription so they moved to Canada. Then I was born. They tell me living somewhere warm is overrated. I can only take their word for it. NO I'M NOT BITTER.

Have a good trip though!

Hey congrats on your certification. Being spoiled living on the left/wet coast I have done a number of lake dives, trust me, lake dives are boring, unless it's a wreck dive. In my opinion you will probably forget your lake dives after you dive in the big salt. If you ever get out to the coast try and get in touch with some of us divers on Canreef and maybe we can line up a group day/night dive. I love night dives. Very envious of the dive trip you have planned.
Good luck.
Keith.

Its a protected marine park, there are big conches everywhere you go in the water. so when they die and wash up on the shore they put them in piles on the islands. There is like 20 islands, some that you go on some you cant, and its illegal to take them so they keep piling up. In the town square there is a christmas tree made out of them with a huge star fish at the top.

Ya me too.... ouch!

Its an underwater statue of mother Mary at about 60'. all the locals that dive and take you under say a prayer there before the continue on the dive.

not sure never got that close to them. but more than likely it is as they only get the garbage picked up once a week

Looks like some great diving, I'm jealous. Thank goodness I will be in Mexico in another 2 weeks. I just talked to my dive buddy in Puerto Vallarta the other day and at one of my favorite area sites the visability was 70 feet and the water temp was 88F but I imagine it should be cooled down to about 83-84F by the time I get there.
Thanks for sharing the pix.

Great pictures what kind of camera did you use?

I used a Canon D10 for the snorkel pics, and the dive master that we were with had a Pentax 12.1 mega pixel that he took all the dive pics with.
