I added Sugar sand to my reef tank 3 weeks ago. What a mistake that was:twised:. This stuff won't settle and make the water cloudy. I have a pretty good flow in my tank. Does anyone had a similar experience? I am debating removing it or should I mix a different sand to it?

Any suggestion? Thanks

Did you rinse it first till the water ran clear ?

Yes. I did rinse. Looks like this stuff is too fine. I have 2 large Tangs in there, they are creating a dust storm. I also added a filter sock on the drain to the sump, hoping to catch most of the sand. But I might have too much movement in my tank.

If possible, redirecting your flow (ie. banking the flow off something, or aiming it higher)might help.

+1 on rederecting! I had a similar problem. I played around with my wavemaker and other peer heads and now my water is crystal clear and still has plenty of flow.

Lol... I have 4 maxi jet in the tank controlled by a wavemaker. I will attempt to move the power head tonight. That might fix the problem:)

I have sugar sand and experienced the white milky tank for awhile as well. Running filter floss and rinsing that frequently helped immensely in the beginning. Mine is crystal clear now and I really love the sugar sand.
