I had heard you can get a dimmer setup for the Ice Cap VHO ballast to simulate dawn and dusk effects. Is this the digital timer that can do that??

http://www.jlaquatics.com/cgi-bin/shopping/jalstore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=ic-ptimer

Also I was wondering if this can be done (dimming) with any VHO ballast (ie. workhorse 7 or one of those lampsnow/hellolights ones)?? Does this timer apply or would I have to get something else??

Thanks!
Christy :)

Thats just a timer.

I thought all these guys were using that X10 thingamajig for the dimming... or did that turn out to be a flop???

The icecap dimmer unit is called "Icecast" I think, or something like that. I don't know if they're still made. I haven't heard people speak of them in quite some time.

Mak, not too sure but I think the X10's were being used for automating varying on/off times. For example, a lunar cycle that doesn't so much have varying intensity but "moonrise/mooset" times roughly approximately the lunar cycle every 14 days or whatever. Or maybe it was dimming, but then probably just using a standard incandescent then maybe. .. (?)

Yah, I think it's called a Solar 1000 or something. That name rings a bell.

I have seen them in operation.. waist of time in my opinion. they don;t realy dim but rather set down in a couple stages.

Have you VHO shut off an hour after the halides. That's enough dimming for me  But I also have a moonlight now so the tank doesnt go completly black and freak out the fish when the VHO shut off.
