Well, I've been searching the site and can't seem to come up with any recent salt usage threads.

I've used Kent for almost 12 years, but it is getting harder to find and I guess I have to let go.

I want an out-of-the-bucket salt, no messing with additives. No SPS involved, a few LPS and softies.

What's out there now that's consistent and easy to use ?

I really like Marine Environment but it's just too hard to locate in Canada so I've switched to Reefer's best and I've been really happy with the consistancy of their boxes.

I originally used IO but got so tired of the brown sludge at the bottom of every batch that even the price couldn't justify it anymore.

Reef crystals changed their formula and is now comparable to RB and H2Ocean, good base stats no more adding chems to it for a WC.

Brown sludge is nothing, ignore it. IO is great salt.

I vote for IO too. Pouring a couple additives in the mixing bucket isn't any more difficult than pouring the salt into the bucket in the first place. You only need to supplement calcium and magnesium with IO.

Hey Deb, I prefer Reefers Best & I am not a fan of the H2ocean but my reef is sps dominant so you would have different requirements than me. I have always had pretty good experiences with Reef Crystals.

I personally use H2Ocean and find it has been pretty consistent for levels. I usually test every 2nd batch of WC water I make up to check, however my tank is SPS dominant.

For a LPS/Softy tank, I think your best bang for the buck would be Reef Crystals.

I've been using IO and dosing Ca and Mg... I have never seen any sludge in the bottom of my bucket. I don't have SPS though, only softies and LPS.

Thanks guys and gals. I'll check some of those out.

No, back in the day I might have done the additives thing, but I don't even own any test kits anymore.
