How many watts of lighting would be good for an LPS/Soft coral olny reef tank?
Depends on tanks size, particularly depth and width.

Not all that much, although doing an LPS nano is very challenging because of the amount of real estate required to keep LPS stingers from attacking each other.

I have 70W metal halide over my 10 gallon tank and have only LPS and softies (overkill, I know). The open brain and mushroom don't seem to mind the light but one type of the zoas don't like being near the center of the tank and I have palys that bleach out when any higher than the sandbed. You could maximize your 'real estate' by choosing corals that have shorter sweepers.
I have 96w T5HO on a 20l so it is only about13" deep...I keep frogspawn, hammer, open brain, crocea clam, toadstool, green tree, zoas etc...all super healthy and BIG!

What are the dimensions of the tank?
