I have a mag drive pump running my Remora Pro protein skimmer. It quit pumping recently so I opened it up. The impellor will turn but clunky and slow. The magnet is not scored up at all and everything looks good. Can anyone help me with this? Do the magnets get old so a new assembly would fix it?

Thanks.

Usually, the impeller eithe breaks, or sticks to the magnet. The impeller is supposed to flop around about 3/4 turn on the magnet. If the impeller doesnt flop easily, clean it and retry

I can get just about 1 full turn of the impellor on the magnet. I have cleaned all the scum up and it is clean as a whistle.

It spins really nice. Free and easy.

The impeller is the only replaceable/repairable moving part of the typical mag pump. You can probably get one for around $10 and give it a try. If that doesn't help, then the pump is more than likely done.

I've got another pump I used to have in an outdoor pond that I have temporarily hooked up and it seems to be working pretty good.

I still want to get the other pump figured out though.
