View Full Version : ID Please - Red leather macro algae?

Sorry for the poor shot, this guy is tucked way in the back and hard to get a picture. He is about the size of a beer coaster.

It feels like leather and has been on the piece of rock forever but recently has started to grow quickly in this overlapping "elephant ears" pattern. Any thoughts on this guy? I'm thinking coralline growing off the LR.

If it's rubbery it's not coralline. I have no idea.

+1 coralline algae is brittle when it grows off the rock, or on it for that matter

I had some of this n my tank too but I pulled it all because it was covering corals.

Probably Lobophora. Hard to get rid of. Sometimes emerald crabs or small sally lightfoot crabs will eat it.
