so the past few weeks i have thought about getting a tank for the kitchen, searching canreef, local buy and sell sites, LFS;s etc. looking for the perfect sized tank, and got nilch.
so while cleaning out the closet, i found a boat load of glass, and was like, i can build a tank, easy, get a glass cutter, some silicon, and bam new tank.

LOL, this is the build

maybe i missed it, but why is there 2 pieces of glass siliconed together??? i am really enjoying you laugh about this, i think making tanks is so much fun. i think i will build my next one, but order the glass i tried to cut glass and failed.

haha, yes she goin to be a beauty when shes finsihed.
I siliconed the two pieces of glass as, thats all i had after cracking a piece.
and it was a bit thinner than the rest of the glass so i doubled it up.
not sure if this was the smartest move.

So heres some updates, i havent tired filling it with water, but i might try it in the bath tub, LOL. havin a time.

all done, hehehe.
its not quite how i envisioned it in my head, LOL.

the tank is something like 6.5-7 gallons.

there is a bare cornor of the tank, thats where i want to put a phos reactor

hahah i love it, im laughing my butt off at home, when in doubt add more silicone, i thought this tank was much bigger in your other pictures, i would let it hold water for a while, oh and does that one section of the tank at the back just not going to be filled with water??

oh yeah, i forgot about the live rock in there at least 25lb. and 3inch sandbed. so just minus one tang and it should be good.

This thread rocks!!

I like how the glass is uneven, maybe a little duct tape to give it some bracing.

Boomboy
08-29-2009, 12:08 AM
haha duct tape. you should have just used duct tape in the first place, alot stronger than silicone. and while your at it, might as well make the live rock out of duct tape, save cost instead of buying liverock.

the tank has been in the closet for weeks now. I doubt it will ever see water as my schedule is too busy now.

but I did pick up a 29 gallon cube, that as well hasnt seen water yet.

mods should close this thread, as she is now dead.
