I've had a couple dozen hermits in with my frogspawn for a good year and a half and have never seen them do any damage. IME they should be ok.

I have a 2 head frogspawn and about 20 hermit crabs. I haven't seen them bother it or hang around it.

no problems or damage with my frogspawn and crabs either. Never even seen them go anywhere near it.

No issues here either with my 7 headed frogspawn and army of hermits. I had no idea it was even an issue!

Perhaps there is some certain type of hermit that eats them but I've never seen it and IME hermits generally speaking are fine with most corals.
I guess if that was the only thing in the tank so a bunch of hermits only had it to climb on all day it might bother it but I find that unlikely.
