Any glass shop will do it, just give them the dimentions. I have used Alberta glass and Glass Unlimited, had it within a day or two.

I don't think a lot of people cover the top of their tanks these days.. or am I wrong? I haven't seen a tank covered with glass on top for a while. There are heat issues with covering the top of your tank. A lot of people use egg crate or something similar that is open so that heat can escape from your tank. A lot of people don't cover their tanks at all :-) Just something to think about.

But to answer your question, most fish stores will cut glass for you.

Good point, as well the glass with be salt caked before you know it, and you will be cleaning it freequently to keep your light level's up.

Yes, keeping your tank uncovered means it will evaporate more and faster, but that evaporation is what's keeping your tank cool! Without that evaporation your tank will boil, hehe. Well, not boil but would get very very hot!

And yes, it will also get very dirty very very fast, with salt caked on and perhaps algae. You will be cleaning that top glass every other day so that it is clean enough for light to shine through it. You'll get tired of cleaning it and will eventually stop using it.. hehe!

Another thing to worry about when covering a tank with glass is poor "gas exchange"....look for nylon "chicken wire" that they use to keep birds out of your garden. You just need to make a frame either out of wood or wire and attach the "chicken wire" to it....blocks out very little light....and keeps your critters in....so Ive been told anyway:mrgreen:

I used plastic screen for like the screen door on your house.
I placed it over my lights and cut pieces on the back to fit around my wires and pipes and used those big paper clips to help weight down the front.

You can buy window screen making kits for cheap. Then you get a trim around the screen custom made for your trim.
