i know it's a coral (which one I have no idea), but i just have to point out that if you don't look closely, the shape is very octopus-like! Even the "eye" is the right shape and place.

Hi Guys, yep, I think it's a favid as well. I was hoping some one would tell me the latin name, or at least a good name so I can frag it and call it some thing other than "colourful coral for sale" It's pretty nice looking, It's definately an encrusting coral, I've never seen any sweeper tentacles on it. And the colours that you are seeing are not photoshoppped at all! After we figure this one out I have another one that I will make a separate post about.
Beleive it or not, this coral was kind of a freebie, it was attached the the base of an SPS coral that I bought from J+L a few years ago, I hated the weird base that the SPS came in on, so I broke the main coral off of it and attached it to a larger rock. This coral was about an inch across when I first detached it from the SPS, since then it's spread over about a five-six inch area.
Has anyone ever seen a coral like this before?

Looks more like a Pavona sp. to me. Maybe P. Decussata?

I'm going with Pavona too, but I don't think it's P. decussata.

HI Guys, I looked at both of the a-forementioned corals from the previos thread, And this doesn't really look like the specimens that I saw, any other suggestions?

Hydnophora imo

Here is a Pavona sp that looks really similar. The additional lines could be as little as a color variation or yours being a bit more puffed up than the one pictured. Could also be wrong. This one is supposedly decussatus, but I think it is misidentified.

I'd say that the specimen Myka showed is the closest one, but it's definitely not a hydnophora, they branch out don't they?

This is for sure Pavona I had Eric Borneman I.D it himself.
What I see looks very fleshy. I think it is Pavona explanulata pg. 184 Corals of the World "Vernon" when Mr. Borneman replied to this id pic he said to tell what type of Pavona you need the skeleton with no tissue and magnification for proper I'D. So according to him a guess is best for type
