Here's a great video...not sure if it's been posted before.

My first thought was that the tank was way too crowded but the more I watched, it dawned on me that if it can bring a greater respect for the life in the ocean to more people than those like us who own tanks, then it's doing an amazing job.

Something about that MASSIVE and empty (besides fish) rectangular tank depresses me actually. Can't explain why when it should be breath-taking...

Certainly puts my little piece of the ocean to shame :P

Really? I've watched it several times now and it still takes my breath away. I don't know how they stop them all from eating each other...haha.

I'm with you the whale sharks make me feel sad. It just shows man wanting to control all animals, I love aquariums and zoos but some animals don't belong there.

I have to agree, the tank should not have whale sharks and they should have put live rock and sand in, to make it more natural.

To me it looks like a giant fish bowl full of fish. Definitely needs some rock and sand IMO.

I think rock and sand would be totaly unnatural.. by the look of the fish that were in there they are all open water types.. so a good chance they have never seen the bottom of the ocean. we always try to put our view of how the tank should look and forget about the inportant thing, trying to make it look as natural as we can for the inhabatants.

there's a mix in there. As well as some that venture into shallow seas and out again.

I would hate to be the guy who had to clean the sand in that tanks.......... must be a couple million gallons.

I agree whale sharks have no place in an aquarium. But I thought this was the one aquarium that has successfully kept these fish and no one knows why these large fish have lived so long in this aquarium where other tanks the whale sharks perish within 10 months?

snaz, I believe you are thinking of the Georgia aquarium. Georgia has had had three die on them I believe, but if I recall correctly, they have a better track record than okinawa. At the very least it's a bigger and prettier display. their whale sharks are also fishery bycatch, not targeted for collection; I do not know if okinawa followed the same protocol.

You can get a good scale of the tank by the two scuba divers inside doing maintanence, it's massive. I like the whale sharks not to mention Manta rays, they are awesome. There is certainly a big wow factor for me. Thanks for sharing.

It's definately spectacular to see all of those different types of fish in one small tank. I wonder what feeding time looks like in there?
